CYFA stands for
‘Could You Fry Antelope’or
‘Catch Your First Aardvark’ or
‘Clever Young Flying Aces’ or …
Christian Youth Fellowship Association -
What a boring name for an exciting group!
Currently we are looking how best to take this forward and be revolutionary
for the Gospel in the lives of Stapleford teenagers. Sundays are more laid
back, the CYFA meeting follows from the evening service and scratches the surface
of how to live as a Christian and the Wednesday meetings where we meet up at
St Luke’s from 7.30 until 9 pm gives us time to dig a little deeper into
faith issues.
The teenagers love their music and have formed a band playing regularly together,
leading services and events in the community. They are also developing quite
a reputation for drama and are happy to find any excuse to perform!
We mix social event and God stuff, with trips and visits to gigs and events,
and even manage to persuade the parents to allow us to take their ‘little
ones’ away to Christian festivals like Soul Survivor for a few days of
fun and camping.
Dan and Lucy, the leaders at CYFA are passionate about helping them to smash
through the rubbish that strangles and squashes the plain truth about Jesus’ love
and for each member of the group to fulfil their potential as a young man or
woman of God
‘Since I’ve been coming to St Helen’s I’ve felt so
encouraged and valued. The youth leaders know how to explain about Christian
things in a way that I can understand and that encourage me to try to fit into
my life. You can just tell that they care for you.’ Josh aged 15
‘I’ve grown up at St Helens and CYFA gives me a good social network
with my friends. The leaders have loads of ideas how to make it all fun.’ Daniel Aged 15
