Overseas Mission Links
We have developed strong links with our three main overseas mission partners
and are pleased to be able to support them in prayer, financially and how ever
possible practically.
Marcus started coming to St Helen’s when he was a student at Oxford.
Then feeling led by God he went out to Recife, Brazil where he worked in a
boy’s home. After then training for ordination he helped pastor a church
and ran courses in theology.
Tamara is studying for a degree in psychology. Until recently she was taking
a leading part in the children’s work in the church of Christo Redentor
where Marcus is part of the ministry team. He was also setting up a theological
seminary with a local Baptist church, until the recent re-location.
After an extended visit back to the UK over the winter of 2006/7, Marcus and
Tamara will be returning to Brazil to start a new project. More news about
that later!
St Helen’s has been involved with the life and ministry of the Mesco
family for several years. Members of the church have visited Peru and Alejandro
has visited Stapleford.
High in the mountains, in a village called Cabanconde is Mission, San Felipe,
which can only be reached by donkey track . There, Alejandro is living alone
for much of the time working to establish the Gospel while his wife Doris,
and their family remain in Arequipa. There she too is involved with a thriving
work for the church while also continuing to support their older children.
Dorcas Wabyanga - Uganda
Dorcas first came to St Helen’s in September 2001, as a Care Force
worker. Her hometown is Arua in Uganda. While working with us in Stapleford,
Dorcas quickly became a much loved member of the community, with all age groups.
She stayed with us for two years, before going on to Redcliff Bible
College to do a further degree in Mission. Then in 2006 she returned to Uganda
and married Robert Wabyanga who is working for a Doctorate in the Old Testament
at Makerere University.
Dorcas is now involved with a Christian outreach programme called FOCUS working
with University Students
We are also committed to the work of Tearfund and are also
pleased to be in partnership with CPAS, our Patrons, who historically
have had long links with the organisation and ongoing work of the clergy here
at St Helen’s.
