Children’s Groups

Sundays

Children aged 2 to 10 start in church at 10am and then go together to the church hall for Sunday school. There is a committed team of people, (all CRB checked) who share the vision for developing the children’s faith and together we work through a syllabus of books specifically designed to inspire the children. Young children under 2 are welcome to stay in church with their parents. There is plenty of room and toys to play with. On the third Sunday of each month, St Helen’s has an All Age service where children spend the whole service together with the adults in church.

Holiday Club

With an invitation to come to the seaside 40 children aged 7 to 11 came to a holiday club in July 2010. Over three days of fun, drama, activities, games and singing the children engaged with three seaside stories – Jesus calling disciples, Jesus stilling the storm and the parable of the wise and foolish builders.

Next Holiday Club April 18th to 20th 2011

Schools

Assemblies are taken regularly in all the local primary schools.

Time Travelling

Each autumn, children from year 4 of the Stapleford junior schools are invited to Time Travelling at St Helen’s Church, which gives the children an insight to the history of the church in the community over the centuries.

They arrive at the Saxon cross to hear a little of its history and to hear the Lord’s Prayer in Anglo-Saxon. In church, after an introduction to the church’s history the groups disperse around the church for activities learning about water and baptism, the stories in the stained glass, prayer and the Bible. They leave to a lively African Christian song.
