Caring for the community

Pastoral Care is about caring for people, whether they come into church regularly or not.

The love we have found through our relationship with God spills out into who we are and what we do. It’s about showing acceptance, forgiveness, kindness, sympathy, respect, patience, generosity and hospitality, to those around us.

Sometimes there are specific needs and situations, which require specific skills, like during bereavement, or illness, and we are training volunteers to be as effective as possible in supporting people at times like this.

For families we see the need to encourage and prepare those getting ready for married life or parenthood, and are always seeking ways to help strengthen family life in the parish.

For the elderly we recognise the value of a network of support offering practical help and friendship, through home visiting and activities like the Friendship Club.

Through the network of small groups covering all sorts of people, from Tuesday Break for toddlers to CYFA for teenagers and home groups for adults, it’s about being ‘family’ to those in the church. However, none of these groups are exclusive to church members only, and we welcome anyone who wants to come and join us.

Through a range of resources and people we can offer training and support to those in need and those who want to help those in need. We see caring as a whole church activity and want to empower all members to see this as their role in the community.

Prayer is a vital aspect of this work to and there are regular prayer meetings to support the work undertaken in pastoral situations.
