Wednesday Lunches / Friendship Club
Following the Wednesday 11 am service (sometimes this is a communion service)
in St Helen’s, coffee and biscuits are served in the church. But every
alternative Wednesday lunch is served in the church hall from
12.30 pm. This is a chance for everyone to share a home cooked hot meal at
a very reasonable price, and for many this is, for some the highlight of the
fortnight!
Following lunch the Friendship Club starts around 2 pm offering
good company and stimulating activities all help to make the Wednesday Friendship Club the place to be for Stapleford ‘gentlefolk’ of a
certain age! The programme of events varies considerably ranging from a travelling
theatre group to quizzes and intersting speakers. The afternoon ends at 4 pm.
Friendship Club also encourages members to keep in touch especially through
tough times or illness, as such is a good place to make new friends. The group
is friendly and welcomes everyone, and attendance at the church service in
the morning is great but definitely not compulsory!
A friend is a treasure
A friend is someone we turn to
when our spirits need a lift.
A friend is someone we treasure,
for our friendship is a gift.
A friend is someone who fills our lives,
With beauty, joy and grace.
And makes the world we live in,
a better and happier place.
